This feature works with most NPCs, including ones from previous expansions. This isn't the first time that we've seen this feature. Back in Warlords, most of your followers in your Garrison looked and you and even /salute you when you walked near them in the same manner.

Blizzard has added a new feature to NPC animations in Shadowlands. When walking near an NPC, most NPCs will now turn their head towards you in a gesture of them acknowledging your presence.
